RM Group and Siemens launch flexible AMR Solution
RM Group, a leading UK OEM and integrator, specialising in end of line solutions for the intralogistics, FMCG & F&B sector have recently launched a new AMR solution, focused on removing the barriers often seen for UK clients when adopting mobile robotics.
The company, a provider to the likes of PepsiCo, Bentley, Toyota Material Handling, Greggs and Mars/Wrigley, boasts an extensive customer base, and has long been designing solutions on Siemens control architecture. The AMR collaboration between the two companies began in March 2024, with Siemens looking for UK Original equipment Manufacturers (OEM’s) and System Integrators to create an AMR solution based on their SIMOVE platform. RM Group’s solution launched in May, complimenting the company’s extensive end of line automation portfolio.
The solution has been developed collaboratively with Siemens, designed to tackle known industry challenges, utilising off the shelf, standard industrial hardware. The RM Group team have utilised this proven foundation and built a new AMR offering designed to de-risk AMR adoption for customers of all sizes.
It’s a story the industry has become well aware of: an AMR solution failing due to inadequate support or issues with integration due to the engineering team being based overseas, and it is this direct problem this collaboration is targeting head on.
The solution harnesses Siemens ANS+ navigation software, a solution that enables RM Group to offer not only conventional track-based navigation, but also true free navigation solutions, with real-time dynamic obstacle detection and avoidance. Its wireless safety technology enables RM Group’s AMR to operate with industrial grade wireless communication performance, with real time location-based safety zones that dynamically adapt to the AMR’s position. The unit also offers omnidirectional travel as standard, with a payload of 1750kgs, ensuring a solution that can directly compete across all sectors.
RM Group’s business model has long focused on customer retention; with its after sales and service team a cornerstone of the company’s growth over the last 10 years. This, in conjunction with the reliability and peace of mind that Siemens hardware provides, results in a new entrant to the AMR market, that’s UK made, UK supported and fully integrated by a UK OEM.
Commenting on the collaboration, Richard Fear – Head of OEM Sales for Siemens GB&I said: “The use of Siemens’ well-proven industrial hardware in an AMR is changing the conversation on AMR adoption. Customers are increasingly looking for robust solutions that are fully engineered, manufactured, and supported in the UK. This collaboration with RM Group addresses a significant gap in the market.”
RM Group was recently accredited as a Siemens Technology Partner, one of the few OEMs within the UK to obtain this certification. This means that RM Group is ideally placed to offer a full end-of-line Siemens solution, with the peace of mind that they carry the track record to implement and support their own solutions time and time again.
Innovation has always been a key part of the company’s growth, evident in not only this AMR launch, but also the recent launch of the company’s latest generation no code programming software “Smart Stack”, a solution that enables end users to self-program a robotic palletiser effortlessly. “It was therefore an easy decision when Siemens reached out to us to discuss developing an AMR solution; we’ve always been successful when our team is in control of the solution and its integration” says James Nicholls, the company’s Operations & Commercial Director.
