Due to an irreparable breakdown on an existing palletising line, British Sugar were in dire need of a replacement robot that had to be sourced and fitted to return their packaging line to production. As existing customers of RMGroup, British Sugar knew that RMGroup could deliver.
A replacement robot was fitted and commissioned within 3 weeks of placing the order, made possible by RMGroup’s large array of stocked robots, and the availability of programming engineers. The system was set up for the specific requirements of British Sugar’s product and palletising specification within days.
British Sugar produce over 1 million tonnes of sugar and an additional 500,000 tonnes of animal feed from sugar beet pulp per year, when dealing with such vast quantities, speed and reliability is essential. A high speed of 20 bags per minute was requested with the reassurance that the robot could achieve 22 bags in the future, a new ABB IRB 460, a robot designed for high throughput was chosen to achieve production speed now and into the future.
